The corner of James Street and Seguin Street in Parry Sound is what is generally referred to as “downtown” Parry Sound.  At somepoint it also began to be referred to as the “Business District”. Regardless, from this corner:

  • on James St. heading south, you would go DOWN to the Parry Sound Dock area and if you went north you would go UP to the main shopping district. James Street is also occasionally referenced as main street.
  • on Seguin St.  heading east, you would go DOWN to the bridge (and out of town) and if you went west on Seguin  you would  travel UP until Seguin turns into Church street.

The street corner has both vehicle stoplights and pedestrian walkways and several banks. It looks like look many (possibly all) small town Ontario main intersections. In the summer it is very warm, in the winter a cold wind whistles up and down, seemingly in all directions simultaneously.

I am thinking of running a survey asking why photographers and tourists seemed obsessed with the image and creation of postcards of this particular intersection since it is infact pretty bland .  It seems inexplicable. Yet here I am writing about it. Strange.
