Entrance to Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. -12, PECO Ottawa

A large cheerful Welcome to Parry Sound metal banner (I wonder where that went) across the Seguin River bridge introduces this card. The James & Seguin intersection is in the middle at the top of the picture. Effectively we are facing up Seguin heading towards the intersection and ultimately through to Church Street.

  • a sunny cloudless day ut solet
  • a man in a white short sleeved shirt and a hat is walking into town
  • on the right (north) side at the end of the bridge we find that Tourist Rooms are available with Running Hot Water at the home of Miss ???ance on Gibson Street.
  • further up the Seguin Street cars (circa 1930) are parked parallel to the street  4 on the North Side and 3 on the south side
  • on the south side of the road a series of  red and white and black “White Rose Gasoline” signs announce the entrance to the gas station.
      • For those interested check out a definitive version of the great ode to White Rose  from Canada’s greatest singer songwriter Fred Eaglesmith

      • This is one of the Long Version performances, including a 3 minute prequel, with the older (but not oldest) Band including Willie P. Bennett on mandolin and Korrie on the drums. The entire album of Drive In Movie is a folk/alt masterpiece. For a clearer cut check out his entire ripped recording and skip ahead to 17:44 for White Rose
      • If you are under 30 and as a result have reduced taste in music you can also check out Toby Keith with his version  of White Rose. Demonstrating that even Toby gets it right occasionally.
      • Incidentally, Drive In Music also contains “Freight Train” more recently recorded by Alan Jackson in a similar sanitized manner.  My favourite version is by the too little known Chris Paulson. But that’s me.
  • the water tower seems a little too close to downtown reflecting perhaps some artistic indulgence.

Our Card is a colourized photogelatine from PECO Ottawa. A right facing George VI red 3 cent stamp with a cancellation mark is facing our postmark from July 17, 1947 in the AM.

Mitt (possibly) writes (in terrifically bad handwriting) to Mrs. Hay in Chisholm, Ohio

Does this look familiar? he mentions English China plates, hunting & fishing and his travels tomorrow. Feel Better. Take it easy.

For comparison – today/yesterday
